THE PALACE
Palazzo Altemps is one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture in Rome. Construction began in 1477 under Girolamo Riario on a site that, in ancient times, was occupied by marble workshops, possibly near a Temple of Apollo. Today, the palace houses an exceptional collection of ancient sculptures from some of the most renowned Renaissance and Baroque collections, including the celebrated Boncompagni Ludovisi Collection, the remarkable 16th-century collection assembled by Asdrubale and Ciriaco Mattei, and the historic Altemps Collection.
