The great Renaissance master spent some of the most productive years of his career in Rome, leaving an extraordinary artistic legacy throughout the Eternal City. Following in the footsteps of the celebrated artist from Urbino, this exclusive itinerary explores the places where Raphael lived, worked, and created many of his greatest masterpieces.
Much of Raphael’s most significant work in Rome was commissioned by the Popes. For this reason, the complete experience is divided into two complementary itineraries: Raphael at the Vatican Museums and Raphael in Rome.
The full tour lasts approximately 6 hours and is divided into two 3-hour sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, separated by free time for lunch.
You may choose either the 3-hour tour or the complete 6-hour experience, combining both the morning and afternoon itineraries.

Private Tour: Raphael in Rome
Duration: approximately 3/6 hours

Starting Time: Morning tours begin at 9:30 AM or 10:00 AM, according to the visitor’s preference. If you choose to book only one of the two tour modules, the visit can also be scheduled in the afternoon, starting at 2:00 PM. Please note that this tour is not available on Sundays.
Children: Children under 6 years of age may join the tour free of charge. Audio headsets, when provided, are available for participants aged 8 and above.
Price Includes: A 3-hour or 6-hour private guided tour, admission tickets to the museums included in the selected itinerary (where applicable), and audio headsets for groups of more than 10 participants, ensuring everyone can comfortably follow the guide’s commentary throughout the visit.
Session 1 – Raphael at the Vatican Museums
This itinerary offers an in-depth exploration of the artistic treasures Raphael created for the Vatican. The tour takes place entirely inside the Vatican Museums and includes a comprehensive visit to the Raphael Rooms, the magnificent papal apartments commissioned by Pope Julius II and decorated by Raphael and, in part, by his talented workshop.
The second part of the visit continues in the Vatican Pinacoteca, home to one of the world’s most important collections of Renaissance painting. Here, Room VIII is entirely dedicated to Raphael and displays three of his greatest altarpieces: The Madonna of Foligno, The Oddi Altarpiece (Coronation of the Virgin), and The Transfiguration.
Your private guide will explain the artistic evolution of these masterpieces, their symbolism, and the extraordinary innovations Raphael introduced to Renaissance painting.
Among them, The Transfiguration is widely regarded as Raphael’s final and greatest masterpiece. The painting combines two biblical episodes in a single dramatic composition: the Transfiguration of Christ on Mount Tabor and the healing of the possessed boy below, perfectly illustrating Raphael’s mastery of composition, movement, and emotion.
Session 2 – Raphael in Rome
The second part of the experience is a walking tour through the historic centre of Rome, following the places where Raphael left some of his most remarkable works.
The first stop is the Basilica of Sant’Agostino in Campo Marzio, located just a short walk from Piazza Navona. This beautiful Renaissance church houses Raphael’s celebrated fresco The Prophet Isaiah, one of the artist’s finest public works in Rome. The church is also famous for preserving Caravaggio’s Madonna of Loreto, offering a fascinating opportunity to compare two of Italy’s greatest masters within the same setting.
The tour then continues to Santa Maria della Pace, where Raphael designed the elegant Chigi Chapel and painted the magnificent fresco Sibyls and Angels, a masterpiece that perfectly reflects the harmony and grace of the High Renaissance.
The final stop is the Pantheon, one of Rome’s most iconic monuments and a masterpiece of ancient Roman engineering. Renowned for its perfectly proportioned architecture, magnificent dome, and extraordinary interior, the Pantheon is also the final resting place of Raphael.
