Your experience begins at Castel Sant’Angelo, where your guide will introduce the fascinating history of this remarkable monument. Originally built as Emperor Hadrian’s mausoleum, it was later transformed into a papal fortress and residence. Before entering, your guide will explain the building’s distinctive architecture, its strategic location on the banks of the River Tiber and its important role in the history of Rome.
The tour then continues inside the castle, where you will discover its richly decorated halls, defensive passages, papal apartments and impressive terraces. From the upper levels, you will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views over Rome, the River Tiber and St. Peter’s Basilica.
After visiting Castel Sant’Angelo, the tour continues on foot to the Pantheon, following the elegant streets of Rome’s historic centre. The route crosses the magnificent Ponte Sant’Angelo, one of the city’s most iconic bridges, offering spectacular views of the castle.
Built in the 2nd century AD, Ponte Sant’Angelo is renowned for its magnificent Baroque marble angels, created under the direction of Gian Lorenzo Bernini and his workshop. These extraordinary sculptures have made the bridge one of the most photographed landmarks in Rome.
Upon arriving at the Pantheon, your guide will reveal the history and architectural genius behind one of the best-preserved monuments of ancient Rome. You will discover the harmony between its monumental Corinthian portico and its immense circular rotunda, crowned by the world’s largest unreinforced concrete dome. Particular attention will be given to the famous oculus, the building’s only source of natural light, and to the elegant coffered ceiling, considered one of the masterpieces of Roman engineering.
The tour concludes inside the Pantheon, where you can admire its beautifully decorated marble floor, monumental interior and the tombs of some of Italy’s most celebrated historical figures.
