Tour Itinerary
Your 3-hour private tour begins at the magnificent Baths of Caracalla, one of the largest and best-preserved thermal complexes of the ancient world. Here you will explore the impressive ruins commissioned by Emperor Septimius Severus and completed under his son Caracalla, taking an unforgettable journey back to the days of Imperial Rome.
Covering almost 100,000 square meters, the baths are believed to have accommodated up to 10,000 visitors at a time. Like the Colosseum commissioned by Vespasian and Trajan’s Basilica Ulpia, the Baths of Caracalla were monumental projects designed to demonstrate the power and prestige of the Roman Empire. Beyond their practical function, they were places dedicated to leisure, relaxation, culture, and social life for Rome’s wealthiest citizens.
The guided visit of the Baths lasts approximately 90 minutes, after which you will continue on foot to the Circus Maximus.
Nestled between the Palatine Hill and the Aventine Hill, the Circus Maximus was the largest stadium ever built in ancient Rome and the legendary venue for spectacular chariot races. Stretching approximately 600 meters long and 140 meters wide, it could accommodate hundreds of thousands of spectators. According to Roman tradition, it was here that the famous Rape of the Sabine Women took place. Your guide will bring this extraordinary site back to life through historical accounts, legends, and fascinating anecdotes.
The final stop is Piazza della Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth Square), home to one of Rome’s most famous medieval legends.
The Mouth of Truth is a large ancient marble mask representing a bearded face, traditionally believed to bite off the hand of anyone who told a lie while placing it inside its mouth. Over the centuries it has become one of Rome’s most iconic symbols and a favorite attraction for visitors from around the world.
While in the square, you will also admire the beautiful Church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, as well as the remarkably preserved Temple of Hercules Victor and the Temple of Portunus, two outstanding examples of ancient Roman architecture that further enrich the historical significance of this remarkable area.
