Rome at night guided tour – Itinerary
This tour has a duration of 3 hours. The itinerary can be customized upon the visitor’s requests. To satisfy the curiosity and wishes of the participants, we created 3 different itineraries.
There won’t be entrances inside the monuments.
1 – Saint Peter’s Square, Lungotevere and Castel Sant’Angelo
The tour starts in Saint Peter’s square, heart of the Vatican City. The guide will describe the monumental complex of Saint Peter: the Basilica, the Bernini Colonnade, the square and the Michelangelo’s Dome. The walk continues to Lungotevere. During the walk, the guide will explain the history of Rome, the relation between the Vatican and Castel Sant’Angelo, the papal fortress on the Tiber. Once arrived at Castel Sant’Angelo, you will listen its long history, from imperial mausoleum to national museum, you will walk through Sant’Angelo bridge and you will admire the sculptures of Gian Lorenzo Bernini that flank the backs of the bridge.
2 - Castel Sant'Angelo, il Pantheon and Piazza Navona
The tour starts in Castel Sant’Angelo. Here the guide will tell you the long history of this symbol of Rome, you will admire the Sant'Angelo Bridge and its famous statues depicting angels, work of Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
The tour continues towards Piazza della Rotonda where it is possible to admire the Pantheon, maybe the most mysterious building in Rome. It is unusual for its façade that refers to antiquity, the classical Greek temple. A pediment supported by Corinthian columns forms the large portico. Behind that, a circular structure surmounts a hemispherical dome which houses at its peak the famous circular opening called the oculus. The renaissance fountain by Giacomo della Porta embellish the square. From the Pantheon there is a few minutes walk to reach Piazza Navona, one of the most famous monumental squares of Rome. Piazza Navona has an unusual oblong shape; the square in fact stands on the perimeter of the Domitian Stadium where horse races once took place. This square is considered the symbol of Baroque Rome: It is always full of life and lights, on the sides of the square, bistros, restaurants, cafes are open until late at night. To embellish this square, the large central obelisk and three splendid Baroque fountains: the Moro fountain, the Neptune fountain and Bernini's masterpiece, the Fountain of the Four Rivers.
3 – Trevi fountain, Piazza di Spagna and Trinità dei Monti
The tour begins near the Trevi Fountain, an inevitable stop for anyone who decides to visit Rome. The iconic fountain is surprisingly illuminated at night and it represents a destination for hundreds of tourists also in this night version. The guide will explain the history and architecture of this huge fountain nestled between the streets and buildings of Rome. Then, the tour continues to Piazza di Spagna, another famous square, well known for its baroque fountains and for the imposing staircase leading to the church Trinità dei Monti.
