The glory of the past in Rome
The Arch of Titus - the Arch of Costantine and the Trajan's Column
This triumphal arch was erected in AD 81 by the Emperor Domitian in honour of the victories of his brother, Titus, and his father , Vespasian, in Judaea. In AD 66 the Jews, weary of being exploited by unscrupulous Roman officials, rebelled.
Visiting the Roman Forum The Forum was the centre of political, commercial and judicial life in ancient Rome. The largest buildings were the basilicas, where legal cases were heard. According to the playwright Plautus, the area teemed with “lawyers and litigants, bankers and brokers, shopkeepers and strumpets, good-for-nothings waiting for a tip from the rich”.
