THE PALACE: Palazzo Barberini in Rome hosts the Ancient Art Gallery of Rome with extraordinary masterpieces of Italian and International painting. The palace is in Via delle Quattro Fontane in Rome. The architect Carlo Moderno made the project behind an assignment of Barberini family who wanted a sumptuous residence in Rome, as the cardinal Maffeo Barberini ascended to the Pontificate. At his death, Carlo Moderno was replaced by Lorenzo Bernini who took the direction of the works for the building of the palace. Just the building itself does worth a visit because of its important architecture. Pietro da Cortona made the fresco of the main hall, where part of the collection is. The illusionistic effect of this fresco enhances the monumentality of the space and starts the period of the baroque decoration. The hall dedicated to the Ancient Art Gallery are at the noble floor of the Palace, where the visitor can see also the fresco “Trionfo della Divina Sapienza”, an example of roman painting of the 17th century, painted by Andrea Sacchi.

THE ANCIENT ART GALLERY IN ROME – Among the most important paintings exposed at Palazzo Barberini you will find: Judith and Holofernes by Caravaggio, the Narcissus always by Caravaggio, Venus and Adonis by Tiziano, Christ and adulteress by Tintoretto, Portrait of a Young Womanby Raffaello and many other painters from the Italian Renaissance and the 17th century.
